Mission Statement

 To clarify the confusion about Diet and Exercise

Diet and Exercise, which together make up the field of Fitness, are not just about being skinny and having 6-pack abs (even though they are the means to that end). The more important reason for Diet and Exercise is that they prepare your Mind and Body for the damaging effects of: chronic stress, bad habits, poor genetics as well as toxic relationships and environments.

The first problem is that fitness “experts” seem to disagree on EVERYTHING when it comes to diet and exercise because there are literally thousands of facts that must be addressed to determine which combination of Diet and Exercise is right for you. That is why no one Diet or Book or style of exercise can cover it all, but science and medicine have already clearly established the FACTS of FITNESS that you need to know. 

That is where I come in, I will show you the “bigger picture” of how Diet (calorie in) and the two forms of Exercise (calorie out) can work for you. This website (which can and will be revised and updated) is designed to guide you on your Journey to Wellness by organizing the scientific facts that dictate right from wrong, fact from fiction.

Doctor Peter Attia is a nutrition “expert” and has an amazing blog site about healthy eating called “The Eating Academy”. The world would be a happier, healthier place if everyone would read, understand and incorporate his information on Diet. He is clearly an expert in nutrition, yet I was sadly disappointed when I read his post diminishing the importance of exercise. 

So you can see that I am not taking Dr Attia out of context, here is the article that took me off guard EatingAcademy.com/Healthy-Exercise and the specific excerpts from that article is below. (Again this is a perfect example of how we can use this online age of free information exchange to turn our knowledge into understanding).

Dr Attia and myself seem to disagree on the importance of exercise, but I’m sure after my extensive explanation you will be smarter, more informed and at a much better place to decide for yourself, which is what I ultimately want for you.

Dr Attia states:

Exercise is important for a number of reasons, but weight management and controlling disease risk are not on the list, at least according to the best available evidence. (bold highlights are from me)

What??? He continues as he validates exercise half-heartedly…

Exercise “matters” for at least 5 reasons in my humble opinion: endorphin production (you “feel” better), social interactions, improving competitive skills, increasing endurance and strength, and (perhaps) injury prevention as we age. (Although exercise, of course, also causes injuries if not done correctly.)

The first sentence (of the excerpt) is completely false. Again, I love this guy on nutrition but there are literally 74,500,000 articles that you can disseminate through on the “benefits of exercise on weight loss“, add to that 27,500,000 + when you add “disease control and prevention“. 

A lot of these articles are from “the best available” sources such as the esteemed Mayo Clinic and the CDC (just to name 2).

The Mayo Clinic states:

Your weight is a balancing act…You can do that by reducing extra calories from food and beverages, and increasing calories burned through physical activity…Once you understand that equation, you’re ready to set your weight-loss goals and make a plan for reaching them…The key to successful weight loss is a commitment to making indefinite changes in your diet and exercise habits.

The CDC (fairly reputable, I think) published these two articles regarding the benefits that exercise has on weight control for the first excerpt and disease control/prevention for the second…

Control Your Weight

Looking to get to or stay at a healthy weight? Both diet and physical activity play a critical role in controlling your weight. To lose weight and keep it off: You will need a high amount of physical activity unless you also adjust your diet and reduce the amount of calories you’re eating and drinking. Getting to and staying at a healthy weight requires both regular physical activity and a healthy eating plan. Reduce Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Heart disease and stroke are two of the leading causes of death in the United States. But following the Guidelines and getting at least 150 minutes a week (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity can put you at a lower risk for these diseases. You can reduce your risk even further with more physical activity. Regular physical activity can also lower your blood pressure and improve your cholesterol levels.


So there was a perfect example of the problem I have with the Health & Fitness and Health & Wellness industry (two names one multi-billion dollar a year industry). One expert validating himself by diminishing others. Telling you that what he has to say and sell is more important for you than what another expert is saying or selling, so that you will buy his product and intellectual information at the expense of you really understanding and consequently doing what is right for you.
